LITCHIS

The Litchis (Litchi chinensis Sonn) has its original in the subtropical zone of Southern China, more precisely, the Guang Dong Province. Cultivated for its juicy fruit as far as back as 1766 B.C. litchi is reputed for its nutritious quality being a valuable source of vitamin C and rich in sugars and potassium.

Introduced in Mauritius by the Chinese immigrants since the early 19th century, this exotic fruit has since then been extensively grown mostly in backyards. Today it is reputed as the most popular fruit within the island.

Tai-So and Calcuttia - the two main exportable varieties with characteristics achieved through careful selection over the years of experience.



Tai-So

The main exported variety -with an exclusively small seed and highly juicy pulp comprises of 80% edible pulp.

With an attractive bright red skin, the fruit has a firm texture with a proven shelf-life. Each fruit weight between 16-22g. Exported in clusters with each bearing about 15-30 fruits. A seasonal fruit which comes out on the market between early November to late December.

Exported since 1934, Mauritius offers the possibility to supply to all parts of the world with an efficient packing designed to guarantee a long-lasting freshness of the fruit.

Calcuttia Late

With a soft & juicy texture with 70% edible sweet and huicy pulp, this variety has the added advantage of being available on the market up to late February. Also born n cluster of 20-30 fruits, it possesses very attractive deep red skin with the ability of retaining its freshness for up to 3 weeks.
